Appeal hearing update - 5 February 2020

February 05 2020

The appeal hearing for the proposed Sunderland Renewable Energy Centre is due to begin on 18th February 2020 after consent for the facility was declined by Sunderland City Council in 2019.

Managing Director of Rolton Kilbride, Andrew Needham said: “We did not take the decision to appeal lightly but we remain confident that there is a clear need for the facility. The original application was subject to the most thorough scrutiny by the authority and recommended for approval.

“The energy will safeguard local industry by providing clean, reliable energy allowing users to remain competitive and decarbonise operations.

“The health and safety of these facilities has been studied exhaustively, with government and Public Health England content that they do not pose a risk to health or the environment.”
